Chapter 4: Black Signal
The night above the Adriatic Sea was calm. Too calm.
The Cobra Squad moved like shadows across the deck of the stealth vessel, every step silent, every breath controlled. No lights. No unnecessary words. Just the quiet hum of engines and the distant sound of waves cutting through steel.
Richard Marchenko stood at the front, eyes fixed on the dark horizon. His jaw was tight. Something felt wrong.
“Signal confirmed,” whispered Alexei, the team’s hacker, his eyes locked on the tactical tablet. “Encrypted transmission. Not NATO. Not Russian. Not European.”
Richard turned slowly.
“So what is it?”
Alexei hesitated. That alone was bad news.
“It’s a private military frequency… but layered with terrorist encryption. Someone’s funding them. Big money.”
Claire Dubois adjusted the explosives pack on her back and smirked.
“Of course they are. Terrorists never pay cash anymore. Inflation.”
A few quiet chuckles followed. Black humor was how they stayed sane.
The target was a coastal fortress—an old Cold War facility repurposed into a command center for a growing terror network known only as Black Signal. Intelligence suggested they were coordinating attacks across three continents.
Tonight, Cobra was here to cut the head off the snake.
Richard raised his fist. The team froze.
“Final check,” he said quietly. “No prisoners. No speeches. We go in, we erase them, and we disappear.”
No one argued.
They dropped into the water like ghosts.
The underwater approach was flawless. Silent propulsion units carried them beneath the waves, straight toward a submerged access tunnel long forgotten by history—and recently rediscovered by Cobra intelligence.
Claire reached the sealed hatch first. She placed a small charge, fingers moving with surgical precision.
“Three seconds,” she mouthed.
The explosion was barely a whisper. The hatch fell inward.
Inside, darkness.
Thermal vision activated. Red silhouettes appeared.
“Four targets,” whispered Marcus, the former Green Beret. “Armed.”
Richard moved first.
He flowed forward, his body a weapon. One touch—pressure point. The first man collapsed, dead before his rifle hit the ground. Second target turned—too slow. Richard’s fingers struck again. Dim Mak. Silent. Final.
The remaining two never even fired a shot.
“Clear,” Richard said calmly.
They advanced deeper.
The control room was alive with screens, maps, satellite feeds, and armed men shouting in three different languages. They never saw Cobra until it was over.
Suppressors coughed softly. Blades flashed. Bodies dropped.
One man tried to run.
Big mistake.
Claire tackled him, slammed him against the console, and pressed a knife under his jaw.
“Wrong direction,” she whispered sweetly.
Richard stepped closer and studied the man’s terrified eyes.
“Who’s backing Black Signal?” he asked.
The man laughed nervously.
“You think you can stop it? You’re already too late.”
Richard tilted his head slightly and touched the man’s neck.
Just one finger.
The laughter stopped instantly.
“No speeches,” Richard said coldly.
Alexei hacked the system within seconds.
“Oh… this is bad,” he muttered.
“How bad?” Marcus asked.
Alexei swallowed.
“Global. Weapons shipments. Dirty money. And… names.”
“Names?” Claire asked.
Alexei turned the screen toward Richard.
Government officials. Intelligence officers. Generals.
Silence filled the room.
Richard stared at the list. His expression didn’t change—but something dark moved behind his eyes.
“So,” Marcus said slowly, “we’re not just fighting terrorists.”
“No,” Richard replied. “We’re fighting the people who pretend to fight them.”
He straightened.
“Copy everything. Then burn it.”
Explosions rippled through the facility as Cobra vanished into the night.
Fire rose behind them, painting the sky orange.
On the deck of the vessel, soaked and silent, the team regrouped.
Claire broke the tension.
“Well… that escalated.”
Marcus nodded.
“World’s officially more screwed than yesterday.”
Alexei looked at Richard.
“What’s next?”
Richard watched the flames fade into darkness.
“Now,” he said quietly, “we hunt the architects.”
A pause.
“And this time… we don’t leave ruins.”
He turned toward the cockpit.
“We leave warnings.”
The Cobra Squad disappeared into the black sea, carrying a secret powerful enough to shake governments—and a resolve strong enough to destroy them.
The war had just changed.
