Chapter One: The Cobra's Shadow

27 января 2026, 23:02

The night smelled of burnt oil, wet concrete, and fear.
Richard Kinston was crouched behind a collapsed wall, counting breaths instead of seconds. Breathing was quieter. Safer. Time had a bad habit of betraying you when bullets started flying.
Across the street, the safehouse burned in weak orange flames. Not enough to draw attention. Just enough to erase evidence.
"Three rats inside," a voice whispered in his ear.
French accent. Calm. Almost bored.
Richard allowed himself a thin smile. No humor in it.
"Not for long."
Cobra Squad didn't knock on doors.
They ended problems.
Rain slid down his face as he looked through the scope. Old warehouse. Abandoned. Full of men who officially did not exist.
"I confirm movement," Ghost murmured.
"Military-grade comms. These aren't street idiots."
Richard's smile widened, just a little.
"Then they paid for the deluxe funeral."
The warehouse door opened.
Two armed men stepped out. Nervous. Smoking. A mistake.
The suppressed shot sounded like an old man coughing.
The first man dropped without understanding that his evening plans were permanently canceled. The second turned-too slow.
Richard was already moving.
Drop. Roll. Knee strike. Crack.
Silence returned, heavy and uncomfortable.
"Targets down," Richard whispered.
"Clean," Ghost replied. "You're clear."
Richard dragged the bodies into the shadows. Blood mixed with rain and disappeared down the cracks in the concrete. Cities were good at hiding sins.
Inside the warehouse, the air was thick with sweat and cheap gun oil.
Four more.
One reached for his weapon.
Richard reached for his throat.
Dim Mak wasn't pretty. It wasn't cinematic. It was efficient.
Touch. Pressure. Death that looked like a heart attack.
The man collapsed, eyes wide, mouth open, still trying to breathe.
"Three left," Ghost said calmly.
"Two," Richard corrected, stepping over the body.
Gunfire erupted.
Too loud. Too desperate.
Bad men always panicked the same way.
Richard moved through the chaos like a shadow with a pulse. A blade flashed. A suppressed shot. Another body hit the floor.
The last one tried to run.
He didn't make it to the door.
When it was over, Richard stood alone among the dead. No speeches. No regrets.
"Package secured," he said.
"Extraction in two minutes," Ghost replied. "Any complications?"
Richard looked around the warehouse one last time.
"No."
He paused.
"Actually... yes."
"What?"
He glanced at the burning safehouse across the street.
"They really thought this place was safe."
A brief silence. Then a quiet chuckle in his ear.
"Everyone does."
Richard disappeared into the night as sirens began to echo in the distance.
The Cobra left no witnesses.
Only questions.
