The attack

"At this rate, we'll be here for months" a voice called out from the darkness, it was midnight after all
"Will you shut your face"came the unmistakable voice of rear admiral Higsbe
Hillary, skully and the some miscellaneous ammo fetchers were all huddled around the AA gun, all focused on the same spot, a tiny opening between two island, all of the Ships
were now in place, and with all of there guns trained in the channel between to huge masses of land, Hillary, with a keen ear noticed a low drone coming from the other side of the far island. He first thought it was one of the Churchill class battleships fine tuning one of its turrets. (they have a reputation for being very loud) but as it continued he noticed it getting louder, and louder again, getting to the point that the rest of the crew could hear it. Everyone was bracing for the one and two turrets of the huge battle ship to open up on the behemoth that comes slowly creeping around the island, it was almost as if they knew it would be within 15 seconds that the shells would be flying. Then, a destroyer, at barely half speed comes creeping around the side of the island, and as the lights were off on the HMS Knight they couldn't see anything
"A destroyer?" Hillary said pondering why they were not beefed on how there was going to be destroyers in the fleet.
BO-BO—BO-BOOM
Immediately at that moment all guns on the HMS Knight forward section blew the tiny destroyer out of the water almost splitting it in two, then a second explosion as the destroyer catapulted its conning tower 100 feet in the air after the magazine went up. The destroyer got of one valiant torpedo which went (very anticlimactically) sailing past the starboard torpedo bulge as half the destroyer managed to get itself grounded on the island in front of HMS Knight

When the morning came, it was met with laughter as the crew stood out on the bow with binoculars looking at half of the poor sunken Japanese destroyer and quoting the HMS Norfolk's message
"HMS Norfolk to HMS Knight, what in the ever loving fuck just happened?"
It was a morale boost that they were going to need, however in the mean time, even the captain could laugh at the complete overkill of using 6 16" shells to tackle a destroyer which could be sunk with a slingshot
